SATURDAY, AUGUST 19 — NASHVILLE
UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE SPACE OPTION: 8:30am – 5:30pm

Explore the University of Tennessee Space Institute’s contributions to space science and space flight in a visit to UTSI’s Tullahoma facility. Get an insider’s briefing and visit to UTSI’s new solar observatory (scheduled to observe the August 21 eclipse!). The solar observatory, connected to the internet, is a portal to solar science for middle and high school students. Solar scientists from NASA, a STEM solar professor from the University of Tennessee at Martin, and a special guest will bring applied science to life for you.

After a lunch of regional foods at Stones River Country Club, we drive to Stones River National Battlefield. Your hot Summer day visit to this hushed Civil War battlefield will be a distinct contrast to the intense, high casualty, depth of Winter circumstances of the 1862–1863 battle itself. Back to Nashville, where you have the evening on your own.
