DAY 4: TUESDAY, JANUARY 20 — CIENFUEGOS
Head out to Cienfuegos, Cuba’s “Pearl of the South.” Settled by immigrants from Bordeaux and Louisiana, Cienfuegos is one of Cuba’s major ports. After a relaxed lunch at the belle époque waterfront Club Cienfuegos, tour this historic colonial city recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Cienfuegos is seen as an expression of Spanish Enlightenment concepts in urban planning. Meet with members of the renowned acapella Chorus of Cienfuegos and learn about their art and mission. Check in to your hotel and, after dinner at Los Laureles, have a fascinating encounter with the uniqueness of the Cuban experiment: meet Cienfuego’s Committee for the Defense of the Revolution, which exists to promote social welfare and report on counter-revolutionary activity.
