The very name Québec conjures up images of easy living, historical riches, world heritage treasures, and incomparable tourist appeal. Québec City is as unique as they come. It is on Money Magazine’s list of North America’s top ten tourist destinations, a distinction the publication attributes above all to the French experience, the rendezvous with history the city offers, and the extraordinary beauty of its setting.
Québec City's topology is one-of-a-kind. The city stretches out from the shores of the St. Lawrence, one of the largest rivers in the world. It extends north as far as the foothills of the Laurentians, the oldest mountain range on Earth, and east as far as Montmorency Falls (which are higher than Niagara Falls).
In December 1985, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) added the historic district of Old Québec City to its prestigious World Heritage List. Québec City became the only city north of Mexico to receive this honor, one it shares with such age-old cities as Tunis, Cairo, Damascus, Jerusalem, Rome, Florence, Cracow, and Warsaw.

Make the most of a day in Québec. Get some exercise walking about Québec’s neighborhoods, check out the seasonal produce and regional foodstuffs at Québec’s Old Port Market, take in vistas from Dufferin Terrace, or absorb Québec’s history with visits to the Plains of Abraham and Citadelle fortifications. Venture out of town to the ancestral home of the Huron-Wendat First Nation. Late afternoon is the time to return to the Serenity and sail out the St. Lawrence River.
