SATURDAY, JULY 24: GRAND EGYPTIAN MUSEUM (GEM)

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) (slide show — some are artist’s renderings) is a 21st-century structure, designed to thrill. It’s designed to ‘highlight’, not merely display, the 100,000 artifacts of Egypt’s ancient history. From Egyptian prehistory to the Greco-Roman period and Ptolemies, GEM illustrates the richness and foundational elements of Egyptian culture. We’ll have an orientation to GEM, and then you’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in King Tut’s treasures, and many artifacts which had been in storage, or lived in regional museums until now. Save some time to absorb the panoramic views of the pyramids and Giza plateau through the sweeping glass front of GEM.

From Wikipedia

The exhibition will cover about one-third of the total museum grounds displaying ~18,000 artifacts (the full Tut collection of ~5,000 objects in the Tutankhamun galleries, and ~13,000 objects in the other galleries) from the museum’s total collections of ~50,000 objects. It is the world’s largest archeological museum. The main attraction will be the first-ever exhibition of the entire contents of King Tutankhamun’s tomb.
